I started interviewing Jason on our 1st Anniversary, as a way to remember how we grow, and check-in. I just reread years 1 and 2, and I’m so glad I started doing this. The weeks all seem similar but so many changes in year.  It’s more for me/us, but maybe it will inspire you to have your own annual traditions, or spark a smile that love is a choice, a commitment, sometimes funny and challenging, and always worth it.

These interviews always spark fond memories of what was, until this year, the best day of our lives, and we remember the special people who joined.

Realizing how many greeting cards (I LOVE cards) I purchased in a year, we set a pact to only give cards on our anniversary (hints his questions before mine).

I just asked him if he’s ready and he said “we do cards just on our anniversary right?” – This is a perfect example of us, he checks, always trying to be right, he’s the fun one and I have all the rules.

Last year’s interview had lots about Palmer, and the funny part about year 2 is I DID NOT KNOW I was a couple weeks pregnant. My community and charity plate was full every weekend. So as I sit down to interview Jase, it’s after Maverick, our almost 4-month-old goes to bed, and all community events this year were postponed (Woah COVID and  2020) what a difference a year can bring.

Last year, right after our 2nd-year anniversary interview where his hope was to be parents, I co-lead this for Fitbit Local, at LA Live, 4 weeks pregnant, and I didn’t know (I was dying):

Community in year 2, Jason and Palmer came to LA, and I didn’t know Maverick came too!

So Jase,

Q: What was the highlight of year three:

 Jase: Definitely Maverick.

Sheri: Just Maverick?

Jase: His birth (man of few words during an NBA game)…and pregnancy, nice to spend time together

They both sleep like this, arms up, and it melts my heart to see.

Q: What are you doing? (he’s staring at his phone)

Jase: “Oh just reading about wine”, (puts the phone down to listen)

Sheri: Well some things are the same (golf, wine)

Q: What are thoughts on quarantine / Covid – 19

Jase: we get to spend a lot of time together, it’s efficient

When everything was closed, golf courses included, we would walk at lunch. I waddled very pregnant.

Q: What are your hopes for year 4 of marriage

Jase: That Maverick is healthy and growing and to get a new couch. (ha!) More family walks, we get to spend time.

Sheri: Are the family walks because you stay in shape for golfing?

Jase: No I love our walk n talks

Q: How do you feel about being a Dad?

Jase: I love it, but I was a Dad to Palmer (pets Palmer on the couch and he growls)

Q: What the most fun you moment had this year?

Jase: shooting a 71 the week Maverick was born

Q: Do you have a question you would ask for an anniversary interview?

Jase: What was your most memorable moment?

Sheri: pregnancy test being positive and I didn’t even believe it

Jase: Maverick’s birth

Q: What’s one thing you would want to do differently in year four?

Jase: More reading at night, less TV

Sheri: To be more patient when I’m tired, talk to you like I’d talk to a friend

Q: First trip you would take when travel is OK?

Jase: Hawaii

Sheri: post-baby goals here we come …Aloha

Q: Did we feed the dog?

Jase, Is that a question for our anniversary?

Sheri: No really though, did Palmer go potty?

Jase turned 40 during our 3rd year of marriage, and during quarantine wasn’t able to celebrate, so his cleaning dreams came true. I got him a broom and mop to teach Mav. He’s a good sport!

Year four, summarized the amount of times we talk about baby or dog “potty” is a lot! Year one and year two, we went to Paris, but potty is just as great, we wouldn’t change a thing.

Thank you to everyone who congratulated us on our littlest but biggest accomplishment, Maverick, the biggest gift continues to be in the people in our lives. Those who read things like this. That is what life is really all about.

Thank you Jason, for so many reasons to smile. Xo, Sher
