I started interviewing Jason our 1st anniversary, and it was a lot of fun, a great way to check-in, provided some laughs, and some insight too that while we are on this journey together, sometimes one goes left in glitter and one swiffers right. If you know, Jason loves a clean floor. I snagged a good (and clean!) one.
Happy 4 years! 9.2.17 we were married in La Jolla at Torrey Pines Golf Course. I lived not far from there when we started dating, and he proposed nearby as well - so all in all a special place for us, and we feel the same love looking back on each year as we did by the wonderful family and friends who took the time to attend.
Four years later, Palmer (dog) and Maverick (15+ months) later, here we are, and I really think it just gets better, or I am realizing I married up, so maybe this will provide some smiles, some reflection in your own relationships, or even spark an interview tof he special people in your lives.
We never would have imagined we both would still be working from home not only on our 3rd anniversary in 2020 but on our 4th in 2021. I feel guilty a bit for families that it has created immense challenges, but for us, it’s been an exponential amount of more time together, efficient work, less time commuting, and Jason is really helpful as a great partner with Maverick and house to-dos.
The one squabble that is more regular…. who gets to get Maverick up on Friday mornings, as we are both SO excited to see his reaction to the trash truck. Never did I imagine I’d set down my coffee or jump out of bed if it’s really early to go get up Maverick to look out the window, to see the trashman drive-by, and lift the bin high into the air and in the truck. Riveting I know.
So, yep that’s life at the moment. Today, go figure is Thursday, so maybe we both get up and get Mav for the big Friday trash day. It’s actually a bonus this week, as we were not supposed to be in town, but our world was rocked a bit, and very grateful for health professionals and surgeries that save lives (everyone’s ok, we just didn’t travel).
I asked Jase these questions today, driving to and from Orange County, after that family emergency, that makes us realize that life is so precious and everyone will be OK…
Me to Jase, “hey can we do our anniversary interview in the car?”
Jase “Oh yes, yay what are we discussing this year?” . .. He’s such a good sport, between work calls.
Ok, first one…
What was your favorite memory or moment during year 4?
Jason: Hmmm I think surfing and seeing you and Mav on the beach and then getting to join you guys.
Sheri: Shoot I never think of my answers ahead of time. I think seeing how much joy Mav brings the Grandparents, even on Facetime. And golfing with you, so Mav can be a watch.
What is the best $ we spent, from 1 dollar to any in year 4?
Jase: Maverick’s surgery in June, he was a champ.
Sheri: Ooh that‘s a good one, I was thinking the Peloton bike. (Very true on Mav’s surgery)
What are the 5 phrases your spouse says the most
Jason says Sheri says:
Do you want an egg bake this week (I premake breakfast sometimes and during quarantine cooked a lot!)
Please do not put things here on the sink (the counter becomes a spot for hats, keys, cans, etc)
Can you turn it down please (meaning the TV, and in my defense, I have really sensitive hearing)
I’m going to ride the peloton ( I laughed. I didn't realize I tell him)
Sugarboo! (our word/name for Mav)
Sheri says Jason says:
“I’m going to “pop-out” and hit golf balls” (this is his phrase for it will be shorter than an 18 hole round but at least 2.5 hours)
“There’s my guy!” - when he sees Maverick
Sweets, what do we have going on this weekend? (he is probably checking to see when it’s good to golf)
Do we have any La Croix or snacks? (asking must make them magically appear)
I’m going to get a green juice (I think it’s his break from us sicne we all work at home, but I love that it’s healthy)
What is your hope for your spouse in year 5?
Jason: that your leg heals and you can run again
Sheri: That you can teach Mav to swing the golf club
we were gifted tickets to the US OPEN 2021 on Father’s Day - coincidently at Torrey Pines - Mav made the channel 8 news (we did not).
What are you most proud of in 2020?
Jason: Work success while working from home
Sheri: Again not having thought about the questions. I think a balance between work and Motherhood and having help to help me do it all
What are your hopes for us:
Jase: more uninterrupted dinners dates (even though I love having Mav come) it’s nice to do it without him.
Sheri: That we draw plans for our next home, or explore lots in Encinitas that may be a fixer-upper
What is the quirkiest married thing you didn’t expect when getting married?
Jase: Palmer’s big personality (leaves, pees on himself, barks at the tv)
Sheri: I already sleep with earplugs - so sexy, between you and Palmer being loud, it helps
and I asked him this one a few days later, as I find we spend entirley TOO much time on our phones….
What do you wish your I IPhone could do for your it does not?
Jase: Invest in the stock market correctly on it’s own. Then he said “why?”. I love that he answers first. “What about you"?”
Sheri: I wish I could describe a photo and it would find it because I have so many I have to delete apps for storage fo pictures, and then can’t find “the one” I’m looking for.
Jase laughs “how many do you have?”
Sher: tough to say (if you know Jase this is his answer for anything w/o answering the question).
Anyhow, these questions, or any you may ask your plus one, or really insightful that although you share a life and home, maybe even a child (or more). a pet, we see the world so differently, but still love the other one more than anything in the world.
